Prairie Archives, Springfield, IL

This week I was in Springfield, IL, researching at the Illinois State Archives. I took a break and visited the Prairie Archives bookstore located at 522 E. Adams Street. It is on the block with the Old State Capitol. Adams does not run through that part of the block so you have to park and walk to the store. Parking around the area is cheap either by meter or underground parking. The Abraham Lincoln Museum is a block away too.

The bookstore is small with many rooms and very messy. There are books everywhere you turn. Some very old and some not so old. I browsed the history section and the genealogy room. There were some genealogy titles but nothing I needed. There were many other rooms for children’s books, fine arts and more. I didn’t have time to explore the entire store but on my next trip down there I will.

If you are going to FGS in September, stop by the Prairie Archives bookstore. It is worth a look.
