I recently read an article about the merging of the Northern Illinois Library Systems. Due to budget cuts in the state of Illinois, the five Northern Illinois systems will merge as of July 1, 2011 to form RAILS – Reaching Across Illinois Library System.
This system is supposed to help with the transfer of books through inter-library loan, merge the computer systems and provide more services for the talking books program.
If you live in Illinois, read the article when you have time. This merger may at some point encompass all Illinois library systems.
