Tuesday’s Tip – Webster County, Missouri Research

I have been in Springfield, Missouri the last week and a half and visited the Webster County Historical Society and Research Center. Those with southwest Missouri roots will want to check out this repository if they are in the area.

The historical society is open Monday thru Friday 1-4 p.m. The society building has a wide array artifacts from the county, people and schools. There are many photographs both on the walls, shelves and in books.

The research center next door has filing cabinets full of loose papers, newspaper clippings and genealogies. Remember when census records were solely looked at on microfilm and written down on notebook paper? There are a lot of those in the folders. Folders are arranged by surname and contain a lot of information. Old probate and will records are held at the research center along with old original Marshfield Mail newspapers and a few old books. There are many other folders and family histories stored there as well.

Stop and take a look if you are in the area. The historical society is located in the old Marshfield Kinderhook library at 219 S. Clay, Marshfield, Missouri.
