FGS2011 is just over a week away! I am so excited I can hardly contain it! I started packing a few things I would need yesterday. I pulled out my business cards, printed a bunch of labels for raffle tickets. Grabbed a new notebook for notes. Started filling a cooler with water and snacks to take with and continued working on my daily schedule so I wouldn’t miss a breakfast or meetup or anything!
I also have a folder ready for research when I arrive bright and early Tuesday morning! I plan to stop at the Illinois State Archives to pull some death certificates and then maybe pop over to the Abe Lincoln Library to browse the books there. Sometimes I find more just walking up and down the aisles than I ever do through the online catalogs. Next weekend I will focus on packing my comfy shoes and clothes.
The FGS Blog has several great posts on what to pack for the conference. You might want to read up on the suggestions as you begin your packing.
And when you are thinking about snacks to bring with, don’t forget about Breakfast while you are at the conference. The FGS organizers think of everything!
Are you as excited as I am about four full days of learning opportunities? Networking? Vendors and exhibits to browse? Historic sites to see and research to do? Tell me about it in the comments!
