May 1: The Home Front. On the home front, describe your family’s experience during the war. Who did they send to war and when? What impact did your family have on the entire war effort? #militarymemories

Almost every branch of my family sent someone off to war and in some cases, the women did their part outside the home and worked in factories. Overall it was the young men who served. Yet in one case, my grandfather, a married man with three boys at home, went off to fight. I’m currently looking into his story and plan to write about it in a future book. Unfortunately, many of the young men my family sent to fight never returned. A few of their stories are featured in my book Stories of the Lost, being released May 8.
